Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda
When Pujya Gurudev, Swami Chinmayananda attained Mahasamadhi in August 1993, the mantle of leadership draped the shoulders of Swami Tejomayananda. Guruji, as he is fondly referred to in the Mission, accepted this onerous responsibility with complete surrender at the lotus feet of his Guru. For 23 years, he successfully led and managed – Chinmaya Mission – one of the largest global, spiritual organisations of the 20th century.
As Global Head, Pujya Guruji traversed the world, worked with missionary zeal, spearheaded new initiatives, supervised every aspect of the Mission’s work and positively impacted thousands of lives. His organisational skills are the unseen strength of Chinmaya Mission as we see it today, widely respected in India and in all spiritual forums of the world.
On 19th January 2017, he relinquished his exalted position. Setting an unprecedented precedent, he appointed Swami Swaroopananda to succeed him as Global Head of Chinmaya Mission.
Pujya Guruji’s two great loves are Vedanta and music. A teacher par excellence, a power house of Knowledge, he has the rare ability to connect with the student’s level of understanding. He is equally at ease teaching, the Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, Bhagvatam or Shri Ramcharitmanas. Peppered with thought provoking humour and touching anecdotes, his discourses are an unforgettable experience.
As the Acharya of five Vedanta courses – two in Hindi at Sandeepany HIM, Sidhbari, Himachal Pradesh and three in English at Sandeepany Sadhanalaya, Powai, Mumbai, he instilled in serious spiritual seekers the finer nuances of spirituality. From them, he created a band of Brahmacharins, who have dedicated their lives to spreading Pujya Gurudev’s message to the world.
For posterity, he has created a bank of knowledge, near impossible to list. Passionate about Vedanta he has presented this highest philosophy in simple, yet profound thoughts in the 94 books he has authored so far.
A prolific writer, he has innumerable poetic compositions to his credit, with gems awaiting to be published, in the queue. Vedantic in content, his writings flow from the deep depths of devotion to God and his Guru. Fluent in Hindi, Marathi, English, and a master in Sanskrit, he translated into Hindi Pujya Gurudev’s English commentaries on the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads.
The nation acknowledged Pujya Guruji’s greatness in the spiritual field and his outstanding efforts to spread peace and harmony in society. In January 2016, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third highest civilian award.
Pujya Swami Swaroopananda
Introduction :- In an era rife with scepticism and confusion about matters spiritual, Swami Swaroopananda is a rare voice that blends authenticity with accessibility; theory with self- practice; logic with heart.
Formerly the Regional Head of Chinmaya Mission Australia, United Kingdom, Middle East, Africa and Far East, and presently Chairman of the Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth Trust (University for Sanskrit and Indic Traditions) and Director of the Chinmaya International Residential School in Coimbatore, South India, Swami Swaroopananda has now been bestowed by Swami Tejomayananda the privilege to also serve as the Head of Chinmaya Mission Worldwide.
Spiritual Journey :- Born and brought up in the bustling commercial capital of India, Swamiji had always been convinced that beyond life’s superficial, everyday joys and sorrows, there was something more enduring and satisfying. As a child he heard from his grandmother many religious stories based on the great Indian epics and the history of saints. These stories suddenly came to life, acquiring new meaning and depth, when as an adolescent he encountered the preeminent Master of Vedanta, Swami Chinmayananda.
His heart completely moved and inspired, in 1984 Swami Swaroopananda gave up his family’s thriving business in Hong Kong to undergo intensive training under Swami Chinmayananda and Swami Tejomayananda at Sandeepany, Mumbai. He was initiated into the monastic order in 1992. Since then, he has touched thousands of lives across the world, and his tremendous work in bringing out the essential wisdom and underlying unity of all religions has garnered him a place among the vanguards of self-development philosophy.
Works :- Swamiji has authored several commentaries on such important spiritual classics as Ik Onkar, Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra and Sankat Mochan, besides numerous books on contemporary lifestyle subjects such as Simplicity and Meditation, Storm to Perform, Avatar, Managing the Manager and Journey into Health.
Swamiji is equally adept at conducting ‘wholistic management’ seminars for senior corporate executives. Among the well-known institutes he has been invited to speak at are The Ford, London Business School and Harvard University, to name a few. In fact, a proprietary self-development course he conceived and initially conducted, Make It Happen™, has been adapted and integrated into the human resource training programmes of various corporate organisations in India and beyond.
